Luminosity is one of the many attributes to a great black and white photograph.  Perfect lighting creating a wide range of grey tones particularly with dark areas and corresponding bright areas.  If the subject lends itself to the right kind of contrast, the photograph can appear to be a bright light in an otherwise darker subject.  It is this appearance of light eminating from the image that I call Luminosity.  Here the light is more important than the subject.
